Begin by taking one Green Frosted Sisal Tree per stocking holder you're creating to a well-ventilated area and coat each one with copper spray paint. Note: this step is optional and will depend upon the look of the area above your fireplace. I opted to leave my trees their natural green as the copper paint blended in with the wood tones on the wall above my mantel.
While the paint on the trees is drying, apply a few coats of dark blue paint to one DIY Unfinished Wood Trinket Box per stocking. I applied three coats to the outside of each box in order to achieve full coverage.
Once the paint has dried on the boxes, screw a small hook or knob into the front center of the bottom portion of each box. I found the knobs at my local hardware store and sprayed them with copper paint to better coordinate with the theme.
Using a plastic spoon, carefully fill each of the box bases with pre-mixed grout. You can typically find the grout near the tile section at your local hardware store. The grout will give the boxes a bit of weight to better hold your (unfilled) stockings.
Next, wrap a length of thin washi tape around the box to conceal the seam and add visual interest.
Adhere one sisal tree to the top of each box using a few dabs of hot glue.
Finally, decorate your mantel with greenery, Christmas themed decor and hang your stockings in style on your new DIY Modern Navy and Copper Stocking Holders!
