As Edna Ferber says, "Christmas isn't a season. It's a feeling." So why not incorporate that joyful feeling all around your home? I love decorating for the holidays, but am not the biggest fan of the traditional red and green color scheme. This year I opted for a more modern, yet still classic, color combination of navy and green with pops of copper to coordinate with the existing color palette in our house and I couldn't be happier with the result! Be sure to check out the tutorials for the DIY Navy & Copper Stocking Holders and the Navy & Copper Poinsettia Christmas Wreath Idea to complete the look!
Navy, Green & Copper Accents Sprinkled All Around
We dotted our entire house with Christmas accents in our modern classic color palette to for a cozy cohesive feel. Merry vignettes were created here and there to spread the joyfulness all around. A small table between two side chairs was decorated with a Rose Gold Candle Holder filled with a mix of green, navy and copper ornaments that sat next to a mini tree and a blue Mercury Glass Votive Candle Holder.
Our coffee table was simply dressed with a Two Handle Ceramic Vase, which was filled with fresh greenery, thistle and sprigs of eucalyptus, that was then placed atop a copper painted Hammered Gold Round Tray beside a Pinecone Votive Candle Holder and a Hammered Gold Interior Decorative Bowl filled with green ornaments. The decorative bowl received a faux mercury glass finish by first painting it with a layer of copper spray paint, quickly followed by a layer of navy blue paint. We then dabbed at the bowl while the paint was still tacky with a plastic bag to remove some of the layers of paint and reveal the white and copper beneath.
A Vickerman 9" Camden Fir Christmas Garland with Lights was draped across our antique sideboard with a DIY House Assortment tucked in for a cozy, rustic feel.
Rose Gold Votive Holders and Metallic Geometric Candle Holders, filled with Battery-Operated Tea Light Candles, dotted the sides of the houses for added visual interest.
We created another festive vignette to sit on a low ottoman beside our sideboard by filling a Half-Gallon Cylinder Jar with Craft Snow and copper painted Green Frosted Sisal Trees, topped off with a green bow. A Rose Gold Geometric Cage Tea Light Candle Holder and wooden bowl filled with navy, green and copper ornaments rounded out the look.
Navy, Green & Copper Christmas Mantel
The crown jewel of our mantel was our DIY Navy & Gold Poinsettia Christmas Wreath! Simply create this Christmas wreath idea by wrapping a simple green wreath with eucalyptus and then adorning it with poinsettias crafted from paper streamers, foam balls and glitter.
A Vickerman 9' Camdon Fir Christmas Garland with Lights was attached to our mantel to soften the look of all the wood.
A Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Garland, along with Natural Pinecones, was combined with the Christmas garland to tie in with the other eucalyptus elements in our decor.
Copper Taper Candles and a copper painted Silver Candle Holder Set stood tall in the center of our mantel to help raise the eye up to our poinsettia wreath. Battery-Operated Tea lights filled Rose Gold Geometric Cage Tea Light Candle Holders and was placed on either side of our taper candles to balance the look.
A pair of adorable White Reindeer were perched on the left end of our mantel. Three Gold Geometric Triangular Centerpiece Decorations, spray painted copper, gracefully hung from our garland from green and navy blue ribbon.
The right end of our mantel held our DIY Modern Navy & Copper Stocking Holders that were crafted from DIY Unfinished Wood Trinket Boxes.
Our simple white stockings received a bit of "jewelry" thanks to our DIY stocking tags! You can create your own by painting DIY Ceramic Christmas Ornaments navy blue and then stringing them onto Natural Jute Cording, along with a few copper painted Unfinished Wood Beads. Finish them off by attaching the first initial of each member of your family with hot glue and you're done!
We couldn't resist adding a bit of holiday cheer to our hearth as well! A simple vignette containing a Copper Lantern filled with a Battery-Operated Round Flameless Candle and Frosted Pinecones stood tall next to a Pine Cone Votive Candle Holder and a small gift tucked into a Mini Navy Blue Favor Box.
Navy, Green & Copper Christmas Tree
I'm a sucker for a "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree! A more natural, sparce tree really allows the ornaments to shine in my opinion.
We tucked our tree in the corner of the room next to the fireplace and it instantly gave the room a cozy feel.
The Christmas tree was topped with a DIY Navy Blue Poinsettia to tie in with the wreath over the mantel. We simply used hot glue to attach a green chenille stem to the back of the flower to attach it to the tree.
We began decorating the tree by first tucking in a few sprigs of eucalyptus here and there for extra dimension.
We then layered on various strands of wood bead garlands that had been strung onto twine.
And then we piled on the ornaments! White Pinecone Ornaments, Green Shiny/Matte Ball Christmas Ornaments and Metallic Ball Ornaments mixed effortlessly with our decor.
Navy blue and green ribbon was used to stylishly hang the ornaments instead of hooks. Our bright, shiny Vickerman 4" Blue 4-Finish Ball Christmas Ornaments received a little makeover by first spray painting them solid copper and then taping them off in the middle and painting the top half with matte navy blue paint. We added a tablespoon of baking powder to the navy blue paint to achieve the chalky finish and love the end result of the juxtaposition of the mix of shiny and matte finishes!
DIY Clear Round Christmas Ornaments received a faux mercury glass finish by first spray painting them copper and then navy blue. While the blue paint was still slightly tacky, we blotted it with a plastic bag to pull the paint and reveal the copper underneath.
These Gold Geometric Triangular Centerpiece Decorations were begging to be incorporated into our decor! We love how they brought a modern twist to the tree. They received a bit of copper spray paint and were then tied up with green ribbon.
The matte blue Christmas ball ornaments were taped in the center and had their bottom halves painted with chalky green paint. We again added a bit of baking powder to the paint to achieve the chalk-like finish. Metallic copper ball ornaments dotted the tree here and there.
Nutcracker Christmas Ornaments peeked out here and there and were one of our favorite elements!
And we couldn't resist adding a few DIY Unfinished Wood Snowman Ornaments that looked simple yet elegant when painted white and copper.
Navy, Green & Copper Gifts Wrapped with Care
I love matching the gift wrap to our decorations for a pleasing cohesive feel with our blue Christmas decoration ideas.
Keepsake DIY ornament tags were added to each of the gifts for a special touch.
The tags were a cinch to create by painting DIY Ceramic Christmas Ornaments and attaching natural wood letters painted in coordinating colors. They were then tied to the gifts with either navy or green ribbon.
A vintage pair of skis, tied up with fresh greenery and knotted navy blue and green ribbon, stood tall in the corner opposite to our tree next to a vintage sled that held additional gifts.
I hope you have found some inspiration to add pops of navy, green and copper to your Christmas decorations this year! Be sure to check out the tutorials to create your own DIY Navy & Copper Christmas Stocking Holders and a Navy & Copper Poinsettia Christmas Wreath! Happy Holidays!
