Watercolor String Art for Kids

There are so many ways you can explore art with watercolor paints! Recently, my kids and I have tried various watercolor techniques using glue, salt, crayons, string and newspaper. This project uses twine to create a design on canvases. The key is to make sure the twine is wrapped tightly around the canvas, which creates a barrier for the watercolor, and fingers crossed, doesn't let the colored water to bleed through.

30 to 40 min. Intermediate

Step 1

Take the twine and wrap it around the canvas. Making sure the twine is taut, tape the ends to the back of the canvas to hold it in place. You can also try the same method with washi tape! The washi tape is more suitable for younger kids.

Step 2

Using the watercolor paints, paint the spaces around the twine. Let the watercolor paint dry.

Step 3

Finally, remove the twine once the watercolor canvas painting has dried.
