A soft classroom rug, a bean bag, colorful throw pillows, even old living room furniture can all find new life in a classroom reading corner. This is the one area in your room where you can add in several different styles of flexible seating. Provide a few seating options for your students to try. I love creating cozy spaces where my students can get lost in their books. The classroom tent is always a favorite amongst my students! I add in a nice oversized large pillow for students to sit on as well.

When it comes to decorating your classroom spaces don't be afraid to think outside of the box. Take your decor a step further by reimagining classroom spaces. I utilized the forgotten windows to brighten up our reading corner. Transform windows by using the sky backdrop. Simply measure your windows and cut the sky backdrop to fit. Use double-sided tape around the inside of the window and then smooth out the sky backdrop. Use black vinyl and a vinyl cutting machine to cut out your favorite inspiring quote. Add in a few whimsical butterflies and you'll have a fully transformed space.

Take your reading corner to the next level by transforming those blank walls behind your bulletin board. I layered mine with weathered wood fadeless paper and used the sky better than paper for my backdrop. I stapled my outside loop de loop border behind the board directly onto the wall. I took the rainbow border and the cloud border and aligned them up to staple them together before attaching to the board. For the last step I stapled my black and white swiss dot border onto the edge. The layered look really makes your boards pop!

Add in some whimsy by incorporating white tissue paper fans on the top of the board to resemble clouds. I open these up, trim off the cardboard edge and detach the string. I like to staple mine together so they hold securely. I attach them to one another using a few staples and then attached them to my bulletin board all in one piece. To add in some color create a banner using colorful tassels and bold black and white circles. To inspire your readers add some motivational posters. The hot air balloon soaring high kit has everything you need to get started.

Creating an organized space where students can quickly find the books will help little ones maximize their time in the reading corner. Whether you use book bins labeled by reading levels or a shelf organized by series, have your students help to keep them organized throughout the year. Having ownership over this classroom space will help them feel connected to it and ensure it looks beautiful all year long.
