Lay out a piece of watercolor paper along with different fall inspired craft materials and natural elements. We used decorative fall leaves, tiny shiny leaves, liquid watercolors in fall colors, and fall inspired washi tape. Put out some white glue and some brushes as well. Start gluing on different materials and painting your collage.
Let your toddler guide the way. You can rip small pieces of washi tape for your child and then let them press it on the paper where the wish. Some toddlers might just want to sit and use the glue over and over. That's ok. When they are done ask if they want to add some shiny leaves or nature bits.
There is no right or wrong way to do this. If your toddler just wanted to paint, no problem. Try to resist the urge to make the art for them. See the beauty in your child's choices as they are. This is something you can do over and over again too so if this weeks nature collage is just paint, maybe next week your child will be open to trying something new. Enjoy the process.
