Put red and green paint on a paper plate. Grab the medium sized circle dotter for each color. We used two types of green for our caterpillar painting; light and dark green. Start with one of your green dotter paint sponges, dip the dotter into the paint. Add green dots in a staggered pattern, to create your caterpillar’s body. Finish the caterpillar by adding one red dot for the head.

Use the paint pens (these are amazing) to add tiny hair to your caterpillar. Add two blue antennas and L shaped feet. For the eyes, I used permanent paint marker. Taking inspiration from the The Very Hungry Caterpillar™ Popcorn Boxes, we used the paint pens to draw fun designs all over the pot. Let kids get creative and add their own designs.

The paint pens absorbed well into the clay. Once the pot has dried, add soil and succulents. Consider spray the pots with a clear sealer to protect your child’s design so they will last longer.
Didn’t these hungry caterpillar flower pots turn out cute? They are perfect for welcoming spring. I had the kids plant succulents because they are super easy to care for and need minimal attention. Be sure to check out all of our party inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar as well as a Pull Apart Cupcake Cake and a Fuse Bead Necklace Craft.
