To get this pizza party started we prepped our pizza boxes. We folded and assembled them so they were ready to hold our pizzas.
Next, glue in your pizza sticker scenes. These look so fun and real like a cheese pizza just begging for some fun toppings.

To introduce the idea of fractions with my students we used some construction paper cutouts of veggies. They each added some as we worked through introducing the concept. For example, I would say “On my pizza I have 10 toppings. 3/10 are green peppers, 5/10 are mushrooms and 2/10 are onions…show me your pizza.” We did a few examples like these to practice adding our fractions to make a whole, and to visualize what the fractions would look like.

After practice time was up we were ready to open up our pizza fraction factory. We first added our cheese which was just a sprinkle of yellow colored construction paper cut into small slices. They glued the pieces down onto their pizza.

Students then took turns picking out their 8 toppings. We used the toppings stickers from the pizza sticker scenes. I had them sorted on plates so the students could see the toppings available.
Once they were done they got to work using the pizza printable to describe their piping hot fraction pizzas. We used these later as commercials to promote their tasty creations.

Each yummy creation was a bit different from the next. The stickers made assembly a cinch and the students could easily visualize their pizza so they could write down the fractions as they related to their toppings.

And just like that these pizza factory chefs have mastered fractions!
