Start by cutting the striped straws into roughly one inch pieces with a pair of scissors.

To start the garland, cut a long length of baker's twine and tie one of the straw pieces to the end by looping the twine through it and tying in a knot. This will prevent the straws from accidentally sliding off the end of the twine as you make the garland.

Continue adding more straws to the twine by stringing them on with a darning needle, mixing up the colors of straws as you go. I added straw pieces in eight different colors and then strung on a large pom-pom before repeating with more straws. You can space the pom-poms closer together if you like, such as adding three straws followed by a pom-pom. Continue the pattern until you have made a garland long enough for your Christmas tree.

Hang the garland on your Christmas tree! Check out how this garland adds a colorful touch to my candy themed Christmas tree!
