Start by choosing two different paint colors in the same tone. I used turquoise paint for my pumpkin. Paint the lighter version on the wood slat pumpkin first, don't worry about getting the pumpkin completely covered with paint since this is just the base layer.

Take the darker paint color and paint over the base coat while the paint is still slightly wet, blending the two colors to give it depth.

Once the second coat of paint is dry use a piece of sandpaper to sand the edges and create a few "rough" spots on the pumpkin. This will give your pumpkin more of a rustic, aged feel.

Tie a piece of twine around the pumpkin and leave long lose ends to mimick pumpkin vines. You can also tie a piece of burlap ribbon around the stem of the pumpkin for a completely different look and feel.

Cut out a few leaves from burlap and glue them to the pumpkin. Download the Free Fall Leaves Printable here!
