Balance the lanterns in a small bowl to keep them steady.
Tape, glue and paint your paper lantern using any supplies you love. Our favorites were washi tape, letter stickers, and tissue paper. Pre cut tissue paper goes on the paper lanterns really nicely and you can do all kinds of patterns and designs. We also did this by painting the paper lanterns first with watercolors and that worked out really well.
After you work on the lantern, add beaded string, yarn braids, and ribbons from the lantern. You can easily tie them to the inside of the lantern. If you have a little LED light, pop it inside and light up your lantern!
This is a great project for pre-teen and teenagers. The older the kids, the more great details they will add. We saw some amazing paper lanterns leave our art studio.
Have fun! xo, Meri Cherry
