Open the napkin and lay flat on your clean, dry work surface.
Fold the corners of the napkin toward the center of the napkin. You’ll now have four new corners.
Repeat step one, folding each corner to the center, as shown. Make sharp creases to help the napkin retain its shape.
Repeat once more with the newly formed corners.
Carefully flip the napkin over, keeping the folds in place, and you’ll have a smooth, unfolded surface, as shown.
Fold in the four corners evenly toward the center of this back side, and then add a half fold to each corner.
Holding the folds on both sides in place, pull out a “petal” from underneath the side you’ve just folded. Once it’s pulled into place, it will help keep the folds situated. Repeat this action for each of the four corners.
Looking on the underside of the “flower”, you’ll see the next layer of “petals” that can be lifted and pulled upward as in the previous step. Do this four times, bringing each petal up carefully so as not to tear the paper napkin. You’ll find there’s one final layer of petals; bring these up to the top, too.
These folded napkins will impress your guests and make an artful decor piece when placed in the center of plates.
If you don’t get it exactly right the first time, don’t be discouraged - it takes practice! Once you get the hang of it, these are simple to assemble.
