Before starting, you will want to print off the Llama Directed Drawing instructions. Download the Free Llama Directed Drawing Printable here! Each student will need a Watercolor Paper and a pencil to begin. Whenever I do directed drawings I always draw a step first in front of the class and then they draw it on their paper. We continue this for each step. You can do this under a document camera or on a chart paper on the board. I have students use pencils first when we draw.

After the students have drawn the entire llama in pencil, give them a black Sharpie® Fine Point Marker to go over their lines. This will let the drawing stand out when they paint it. I'd recommend going over rules for permanent markers before you use them.

I love using watercolors! Students will have so much fun painting their drawing. Each student will need a Watercolor Paint Tray, a bowl or cup of water, and craft tray. Using craft trays helps contain any mess that occurs. You can either guide students as they paint step-by-step or let them paint on their own.

Once the watercolor is dry, you can mount the drawing on cardstock to make the drawing and colors pop! These llama directed drawings work great to hang up in the hallway or in the classroom. You can also add a writing component to them if you'd like to!
