Download the Free Dianthus Flower here! Print and cut out the felt flower template. Use a marker to trace 8 petals onto a sheet of felt. Use a mix of small and large petals to create one flower or use all large petals for a larger flower and all small petals for a smaller flower.

Cut out the petals. Use pinking shears to make the top edge of the flower pinked or just loosely cut the edge into a wavy shape. Cut two ½” slits into the bottom of each petal and use a glue gun to glue the bottom slits together. This helps create the cupped shape of the flower.

Glue two sets of four petals together. Add a drop of hot glue to the middle of one of the petal sets and glue the petal sets together.

To create the flower middle, cut a 1.5” strip of felt. Fold the felt strip lengthwise. Add a bead of glue down the felt strip and glue the strip edges together.

Use sharp scissors to cut slits every ¼” making sure not to cut through the entire strip. Essentially, you are making a strip of looped fringe.

Place your scissors into the fold of the fringe and cut the loops. Swirl the fringed felt around itself, gluing it along the way to hold it in place. Glue the fringed felt to the middle of your flower petals to complete the flower.

Now that you know how easy-peasy these Felt Dianthus Flowers are to make, go forth and add them to all of your DIY projects! How cute would they look glued onto a wreath or added to the top of a wooden box? While you’re making felt flowers, check out how to make a few more felt flower styles here. Happy Crafting!!!
