Try to get the holes evenly spaced and not too close together.
Thread some green yarn through a lacing needle and run through one of the holes. Pull through and then tape the end to the back of the plate to secure. Knots will pull through.
Have the children begin to weave the yarn through the holes to create a pattern.
Once all the holes have been sewn, and the tree has a woven pattern, have the children use a back-stitch to outline the tree shape. This will also cover any mistakes or large holes that may have appeared.
Using the Red Washable Paint and the Chubby Paint Brushes, let the children paint the rim of the paper plate to add festive color.
Let the paint dry and then watch the kids admire their work of art.
They will enjoy the new sewing skill they have learned.
