Print out the shape templates. Have students cut out the shape templates. Using a lighter colored marker, have students trace the shapes onto different colored foam sheets. Cut out the foam shapes.

Have students identify the shapes by writing the name of the shape on the foam cut out. Talk about the shapes and how they are similar and different. Ask students where these shapes may appear in “real life” (i.e. stop sign or stoplights). Tip: students may also cut out a set of foam shapes and use them as flashcards!

Punch a small hole in the top and bottom of the first five shapes of your choosing. The remaining shapes will only need one hole punch at the top. Set aside.

With the help of the teacher, hot glue two straws perpendicular to each other.

Cut 10 pieces of clear cording, equal in length. Tie the first 3 shapes to one of the paper straws (one on each end and one in the center where the straws intersect). Make sure to double knot the cording. You can also use twine, yarn or string.

Tie the next two shapes to both ends of the second straw. There should be 5 shapes attached to the top layer (4 shapes on each end of the straws and one in the center where the two straws meet). Tie the remaining shapes to the bottoms of the first row of shapes. Tie one final loop of cording to the top/center of the mobile and use to hang! Use the colorful mobiles as classroom decor or send home with your students as a resource for learning their shapes!
