Paint the inside of the tray with chalkboard paint. Let it dry completely.

Now for the inspirational quote….find one you like…I chose a quote that says: “The more we share, the more we have.” These can be changed on a regular basis. Different scripture verses, short quotes or even holiday fun signs are great for this project! This would also be great for birthday’s too! Just erase the quote with a warm damp cloth and write again!

Here is an easy way to put a quote onto a chalkboard! Print out the desired text on lightweight paper.

Place the paper on the tray and trace the letters with a piece of chalk. Since we are just making an imprint, you could actually trace over the letters with a pencil. This would give you much more precise lines and greater detail. Tape or hold the paper in place so it doesn’t move while writing.
The imprint is messy…but it’s easy enough to trace over with the chalk marker.

Trace the lettering with the chalk marker and let it dry completely. Chalk markers are so much fun! They are wet paint and will take a while to dry. They are great for writing on any non-porous surface such as mirrors, car windows, metal, white boards and chalkboards. The chalk markers will wash off easily with warm water.

Let the chalk marker dry for about 30 minutes. Then wipe the dry chalk off the background with a dry cloth and hang in the house with a ribbon. The tray would look great on an entry table, nightstand, or as part of the holiday decor on the mantle!

This craft would be a fantastic project for a Super Saturday or Girls Craft Night! Great for teens/ tweens for summer camp or other youth activity night! Great to make as a gift too–especially if you include some cookies!
