Gather your supplies, including three narrow wood signs, the wood stain or glaze in the finish of your choice, and paintbrushes for applying the product to the wood. You will also need some soft cloths or paper towels, depending on the product you choose. Before starting, read stain instructions thoroughly, including how to dispose of items that have come in contact with the stain.

Using a paint brush, apply the product to the unfinished narrow wood signs. Complete all three and allow to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step. Be sure to dispose of items used for staining properly, as these can become combustible if not disposed of properly.

Use a large paper doily to create a stencil on the wood runners. White craft paint makes a pretty design, but you could also opt for soft pastels like blush, mint or dusty teal. If you like, you can also align the paper doily so that it intersects two of the narrow wood signs, making them "match up" when placed end to end.
