Using a Sponge Paint Brush, stain the wood planks according to the stain manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to order two sets of planks to complete one Advent tree as pictured. To quickly and easily paint the wood buttons, combine a mixture of 50/50 red acrylic paint and water in a disposable cup or bowl. Put the wood buttons into the paint and water mixture for 1-2 minutes. Remove the buttons and place them in a single layer on a sheet of waxed paper to dry.

Once the wood planks are dry, it’s time to assemble them into a Christmas tree shape. Lay out the two longest pickets onto a flat surface. Begin gluing the pickets to the two long pickets to create a Christmas tree shape. Be sure to lay out all of the pickets to get the best shape before gluing down with hot glue.

Using a flat paintbrush and black acrylic paint, paint the middle of 1 large wood slice. Paint 24 small wood slices using a black acrylic paint marker.

To create a more rustic chalkboard look, rub a piece of white chalk over the painted wood slices and rub off the excess chalk. Use a white fine point chalk marker, or white paint marker for a more permanent solution, to write numbers 1-24 onto the small wood slices and draw a star onto the large wood slice.

Use a glue gun to adhere the mini clothespins onto the wood plank tree, making sure the clip part is at the bottom. Glue a red painted wood button onto each of the mini clothespins.

Turn the tree to the back and adhere a wood craft stick to the top of the tree. Turn the tree back over to the front and adhere the large wood slice star to the craft stick.

Untie the knot at the end of a mini drawstring bag. Thread a wood bead onto each of the strings and tie a knot to hold in place. Use a red paint marker to write ‘Numbers’ or a holiday message onto the bag. This little bag is perfect for holding the extra numbers when they are not in use.

Clip the wood slice numbers to the tree each day to countdown to the most wonderful day of the year, Christmas Day!
