Using a wide paint brush, paint the surface of each cardboard LOVE letter with the darkest shade of gray or metallic pewter colored acrylic paint.

Use the same paint brush to apply a lighter shade of metallic silver craft paint, use the brush with very little water to create brush lines. Brush out excess paint with a paint brush that is not loaded with paint to blend until you have achieved the desired effect. Allow to dry for a few minutes before moving on.

Use a sponge brush to apply pats of coppery colored metallic paint randomly across the surface of each letter. Turn the sponge brush in different directions to blend the paint as shown.

Working in small sections, apply black paint to the edges of the letters using a small paint brush.

Blend the paint in thoroughly as shown, using a Tim Holtz blending brush.

Add drops of metallic silver alcohol ink to the surface of the letters as shown. Use a soft blending brush or a soft cloth to blend and pat the metallic ink into the design until you have the look you like.

Repeat with the gold alcohol ink, applying in a random pattern across the surface of the letters. You'll see the shimmer start to really show through by the end of this step.

Use a stiff brush to spatter copper colored metallic paint onto the surface of the letters. This adds an aged effect and also injects a subtle pop of color into the letters which adds to the realistic look.
