Use a flat bristled paint brush and acrylic paint to paint the paper mache houses. There are three different house sizes, small, medium and large. Make all three or just make one! I decided to create a black and white striped roof so I painted the roof white. You don’t have to paint the main part of the house but I highly recommend it so that if your glitter doesn’t get full coverage, you won’t have to worry about the brown showing through the glitter.

Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge® in small sections using a Sponge Paintbrush. While the Mod Podge® section is still wet, sprinkle on some Copper Glitter. Repeat until the entire house is covered in glitter.

You be amazed at how easy it is to create a perfectly striped roof using one of my favorite craft supplies, washi tape. Simply apply a piece of black washi tape to the paper mache houses’ roof. Apply another piece of washi tape directly beside the first one. This will serve as a guide for spacing the tape exactly the same width all the way across the roof. Place another piece of washi next to the second one and then remove the second washi tape. Continue this across the entire roof, reusing the second piece of washi.
TIP: Don’t have plain black washi tape?? No worries! Just use a black permanent marker to color on top of a piece of patterned washi tape or leave the washi tape as is for more interest!

To create shutters, carefully use scissors to cut the ends of Large Natural Wood Craft Sticks or regular Natural Wood Craft Sticks to about 2.5”. Paint the sticks with acrylic paint and allow time for the paint to dry. Add detail to the wood shutters with a permanent marker and hot glue to the houses.

Paint the wooden base of the Black or Orange Sisal Tree and use a glue gun to glue pearl beads onto the tree. Next, glue the tree to the house base.

Now to decorate the house for the spooky holiday! Use acrylic paint to paint a Large or Small Sisal Wreath. While the paint is still wet, dip the wreath in glitter and allow to dry.

These DIY Glitter Halloween Houses would look great as a set on your mantle or entryway table this Halloween. Prop them on cake pedestals or candle sticks to add height and levels to really make your halloween decor spook-a-delic!
