Start creating your DIY twinkling sign by applying a few coats of mint green paint to the DIY Slat Sign. You can easily swap the colors to match your home, baby nursery or party decor. Simply add a few coats to the perimeter of the slat sign. There’s no need to paint the entire sign. You simply want to ensure that whatever won’t be covered by the printable has a fresh coat of paint.

Once the paint is completely dry, download the Free Twinkle Sign Printable Here! Adhere it to the board with a thin bead of hot glue. Allow it to fully dry before moving on to the next step.

Once the hot glue has cooled to the touch, it’s time to add the Gold Glitter Washi Tape border. This will not only add a glittering detail to the sign, but it also helps to hide and gaps or bare wood you may have missed when painting your sign.

Now that the sign is dry, it’s time to add the lighting element! Using a drill, begin drilling holes spaced evenly along the edge of the board. Make sure to avoid any of the washi tape or the printable. If you would like, you can gently sand the hole, but the lights should cover any frayed areas.

Flip the sign over so that the unpainted side is face up. Begin to insert the lights through the back of the sign and into the holes in the board. The lights will represent twinkling stars! We added a bit of hot glue to our lights so they wouldn’t slip out of place. If you decide to do this as well, make sure the glue only gets added to the plastic base of the light, we do not advise adding any glue to the wire or light bulb portion of the strand.

Add a coat of white paint to the DIY Unfinished Wood Planter Box. Then, using a dab of hot glue, adhere a glittering star trimmed from the Gold Glitter Star Garland to the front of the box for a shimmering detail.

Fill the decorated flower box with a mix of fresh flowers and bright pink roses trimmed from the Pink Rose Garland and rest your new DIY twinkling sign on top. Lastly, turn on your lights and display your gorgeous new sign at a birthday party, in your home or in your baby’s nursery!
