Prepare the weighted base by filling the galvanized container 1/2 way to the top with gravel, river rocks or another heavy and inexpensive filler. Add floral foam on top of the gravel and assure its packed tightly into the container. Hot glue the edges and seams of the foam for a nice, sturdy seal.

Next, create the tree trunk. Using a utility knife, cut a small X in the center of each cup. Slide the cups, one by one onto the garden stake. Position the cups in at different angles to create that whimsical Seuss look. Then hot glue each cup into place. We used black, lime green and hot pink cups for our trees.

Continue with the next color of cup and repeat the pattern until you get close to the top of the garden stake. Fluff the tissue pom-pom into a nice round ball and hot glue it to the top of the trunk. We used red and hot pink tissue balls. Use as many of the tissue balls as you like.

Insert the finished tree trunk into the foam base, inserting the garden stake deeply into the gravel. Next, insert a second finished trunk into the foam base if you choose to make a double-trunk tree. Cover the foam and gravel by laying 2 or 3 of the fringe boas around the trunk. Hot glue in place if needed.
