Squeeze a small amount of a colored tempera paint (I used magenta, purple, turquoise and red tempera paint) along with an equal amount of white tempera paint into the center of a DIY Ceramic Heart Mini Bowl. Have the child use a foam brush to spread the paint around the inside of the bowl, mixing the two colors together. This creates a pretty pastel color for the inside of the bowl. You could also decorate these DIY Ceramic Hearts using the same technique!

Turn the bowl over onto a protected surface and squeeze a generous amount of the colored paint into the center. Have the child spread the paint out around the bottom and sides of the bowl. This creates a bolder colored base for the bowl.

Use the foam brush to smooth the paint around the edge of the heart bowl to create a nice clean line and fill in any paint gaps. An adult can help with this part if needed. Let dry.

Dip the child's finger into red paint and dab off the excess. Press the fingertip at a diagonal in the center of the bowl, and then press in the other diagonal direction to create a heart. Let dry.

Wrap your heart dish in a clear cellophane bag and tie with this iridescent heart ribbon. Download the Free Valentine's Day Gift Tag here and tie one onto the bag with a piece of baker's twine.

These heart dishes would make the perfect jewelry dish for mom or grandma on Valentine's Day!
