First you will assemble the hat together following the easy step-by-step instructions in the DIY sombrero. Start by having the kids roll the brim up a bit around the edges of the sombrero.

Next, have them take these super fun (and quite sharp, so again this is an older kid fiesta craft, be sure to supervise!) shred scissors and a stack of tissue paper strips. Then cut some fringe about half way up.
The thicker the strips the less they will need to cover, and the thinner the strips the more fringe-tastic it will be (yup I make up words like fringe-tastic). It will really depend on the attention span of the kids which route you will want to steer them in.

Once you have a good stack of fringe, start on the outer rim of the hat and use the glue stick to attach the tissue paper to the hat. Continue all the way around sombrero layering as you go.

This is a fun kids’ fiesta craft to keep the older kids entertained, and they provided plenty of laughs for everyone else too!
