Flip over an empty planter, and take off the little plastic plug on the bottom. Put it some place safe so you don’t loose it!

Use a funnel to fill your planter with colorful sand a little bit at a time. You can tilt the sand one way or another to try to create different effects.

If you want your layers of sand to be somewhat even, you can gently shake the planter back and forth while keeping it on the table. You don’t want to shake too much or you will mix up the different layers.

Continue adding different colors of craft sand. You could create a rainbow, mix together colors you love, create a pattern, or create an ombre effect.

When you get to the end, it gets a little harder to fill your planter with sand. My 5 year old daughter did everything up to this point completely by herself, but I helped her add a little extra sand at the end. You can also gently shake your planter to make sure the sand has settled enough to fill it fully with sand.

Wipe off any excess sand and put your plug securely back into the bottom of the planter. You could even add a little dab of glue to make it more secure. Fill it with flowers, succulents, or herbs, and enjoy!
