Using white felt, cut out a pattern for your dogs size and stature. You will want to measure for the front part (neck to front paws vertically), and for the back measure from the back of the neck to the tail horizontally. This will help you cut a base for the pinata costume that will fit your dog. Boo is a medium size dog and I used about 1/2 yard of white felt for this project. Cut two pieces of white felt. One to match the front leg part and one for the back of the dog. (See image).

Cut 2 inch x 9 inch strips from the colorful felt sheets. You can use any bright colors you would like. I chose yellow, red, blue, orange and purple for this project. You will want to cut enough strips to cover the felt white base pieces.

On each colorful felt strip, make fringe by cutting 1/2 inch pieces 3/4 of the way up the strip. You will want to use a good pair of felt or fabric scissors.

Using hot glue, glue down each strip of colorful fringed felt on the white felt base. Start from the bottom and add the fringe going up.

Turn over the felt pinata creations, and add 3/4 inch elastic pieces with hot glue from one side of the felt piece to the other. Leave it a little loose, so it won't be too tight on your pup.

Make a mini sombrero for your pet with a Mini Sombrero Pinata, and just add pom pom balls around the rim with hot glue. Add a thin elastic strip with the hot glue gun to both sides of the hat brim. You will need to measure your pups head before to see how much thin elastic you will need. I loved this part of the project! So cute and the perfect icing on the cake!

There are 3 pieces to this pinata dog costume. This will give you options. Your pet can wear just the back piece and sombrero, or all 3 pieces.
