Start by showing your kids what an analog clock looks like! Most kids are used to seeing digital. Have them point out what numbers they see and talk about the placement of the numbers. I found it easiest for my kids to start placing the numbers by quarters. First we placed the 12, 3, 6 and 9. Then we began filling in the remaining numbers. This really helped them correctly space the numbers.

Next, draw an outline of an arrow on one of the colorful foam sheets. Make sure that the arrows are proportionate to the size of the space they will go in.
Draw one long arrow to represent the minutes and one short arrow to represent the hours.
We used a Sharpie® marker to draw our arrows and then cut them out.

Take the brad and push it through the center of your paper plate. Then use the brad to poke a hole in the ends of each of your clock arms (the arrows).

Push the brad with the arms attached through the center of the plate and spread the brad arms so that they hold the clock arms in place.
Do not over tighten or the arms will not easily move.

Embellish your clock with colorful sequins using the glitter glue pens! Your clock will sparkle and shine! The adhesive jewels would also add a fun design.

Let’s tell time and countdown the New Year together! My kids were overjoyed with these DIY countdown clocks and can’t wait to until New Year’s Eve. Head on over and see how I created these fun countdown treat bags to keep your kids busy!
