I started by cutting the foam sheets into strips, long ways. I didn’t really measure them or worry about making them perfect– I planned to use a template to make them into the shape I wanted.

Once they were in strips, I used this template to trace onto each strip. I let the kids help me cut them out, so they aren’t perfect, but that’s OK! My daughter, Ruby, was so excited to use kid scissors!

For each crown, you’ll need a front “crown” piece, and a plain strip for the back piece. Once the pieces were all cut out, I put out the jewels and let the girls go crazy decorating. Those self-adhesive jewels are genius! No glue, no mess, and the girls loved getting creative!

When the jewels were all in place, I cut little strips of washi tape and told the little ladies to turn their crowns over. They used washi tape to stick feathers to the backs of their foam crowns. The peacock feathers had to be cut to size– they were a little too long.

Using the plain strip of foam and a stapler, I attached both parts together after fitting them to each little girl’s head. They were an instant hit!

I love how each headband turned out as unique as the little girl who made it. A simple craft with easy cleanup and big impact!
