Cut red tissue paper into long 2 inch wide strips (the long way). You can cut at least 8 tissue paper pieces together. My heart piñata is 22 inches at the largest part of the heart shape and 19 inches long. You will need about 20 strips (with 8 layers of tissue).

Next cut 1.5 inch slits in the tissue paper. This will be the fringe of the piñata.

Now draw a heart onto the cardboard box.

You will want two identical heart cardboard pieces cut from the card board using a box cutter or craft knife. Be sure to protect the surface you are cutting on.

Cut strips of cardboard about 4 inches wide. You will need enough to wrap around the heart.

Bend the cardboard strips to make them more pliable.

Using a hot glue gun, glue the strip onto the edge of the first heart. Make sure and leave about a 5-inch space where the strip is not glued down. This is the opening in which you will be able to add the treats.

Glue the next heart onto the other heart. You can also use masking tape instead of the glue gun. Make sure and leave the flap open so you can add the candy!

Fill fill fill the piñata with candy and prizes!

Make holes in the top rounds of the hearts so that you can hang the piñata.

Using a glue stick, adhere the tissue to the piñata. I glued it on the front, then the back and then the sides. Start at the bottom and move to the top.

Punch a hole at the bottom of the heart and push a tissue tassel into the piñata. This add a little flair to the red heart. Now it is time to hang the piñata and let the party start!
