Inflate mylar letter balloons, which spell out GRAD, by inserting a paper straw into the opening at the bottom of the balloon and blowing until the balloons are full, taking care not to overinflate, as they can pop if they have too much air. Once they are all inflated, take them to a well ventilated area to spray paint gold.

While the paint on your balloons is drying, cut the black and white striped satin ribbon and bright pink satin ribbon into long strips that stretch from ceiling to floor on your chosen wall. I used three and a half rolls of the pink ribbon, and one black and white ribbon for this project. Begin attaching the black and white ribbon strips to the wall first using glue dots, leaving enough space between each for adding the bright pink ribbon. I used two glue dots at the top, middle, and bottom of each strip of ribbon.

Now for the fun part! Get creative and decorate the kids' felt graduation caps using various black, gold and silver acrylic gems, pink and purple faceted jewels, irridescent jewels, gold leaf, gold baker's twine, and more ribbon. There's no right or wrong way to go about this step. I removed the yellow tassels, and then attached jewels and bows to the caps with hot glue. To apply the gold leaf, use a sponge brush from the paintbrush super value pack to dab Mod Podge® onto the graduation cap, then lay the gold foil leaf sheet on top and press gently. Allow the Mod Podge® to dry, then using a soft paint brush from the super value pack, slowly brush the loose bits of gold leaf away.

Once the paint on the mylar balloons has dried, measure a length of fishing line and string them to spell GRAD using the holes at the top of each balloon. I hung my balloons by tying them to two light sconces on the wall, but command hooks would work equally as well.

Next, attach your decorated graduation caps on an angle like a diamond to the ribbon on the wall at varying heights and in different spots all over your wall using three glue dots in the upper corners.

Finally, inflate hot pink, black and white balloons and sprinkle them around on the floor for added interest. Now step back and admire your eye-catching backdrop!
