Select your color palette and set your permanent markers aside. Gently place a strip of the washi tape on a smooth surface so you can add the color. I choose to leave portions of the design plain as the simple black and white pattern was striking with pops of color.

Once you have finished coloring about a 6″ portion of the washi tape, it’s time to place it on your candle. Starting at the top of the taper candle, wrap the washi tape around the candle. At the spot where the washi tape overlaps, use scissors or a x-acto knife to cut.
Tip: If your tape doesn’t hold against the candle, you can use a small piece of scotch tape to secure.

Continue coloring and wrapping candles until you have all your candles covered. I liked the look of some candles being completely covered in tape and other candles only having a few stripes of tape, as it adds to the interest of your table setting.
Bringing in frosted colorful votive candle holders also adds dimension and additional color. I used hot pink, pink and orange votive holders for my party!

Now is the fun part of setting up all the lovely candles! I always create height in the center and then transition to smaller candles as I go out.
Be sure to check out our other Supply of the Month projects including these projects using color-your-own washi tape.
