Use a fine grain sanding block or sandpaper to create a light texture on top of the cookie tins. This will help the chalkboard paint to stick to the tins and not just scratch off.
In a well-ventilated area, spray paint the tins with chalkboard spray paint. Be sure to separate the tin base from the lid before spraying otherwise, your tin lid and base will stick together.

Once the spray paint is dry, it is time to prime your chalkboard. Prime the chalkboard tin by rubbing a piece of white chalk all over the chalkboard. Wipe off the chalk with a damp cloth and allow to dry. This creates a vintage chalkboard patina and your letters will be able to be easily erased if you mess up.

Insert your goodies into the tin and embellish with ribbon, baker’s twine and chalk. Use a chalk marker to write and doodle all over the tin.
