Use a black Sharpie to draw a long skinny oval onto a flower pot. Add two antennas to the top to finish the butterfly body. Repeat for as many butterflies as you would like on the flower pot.

Pour a small amount of several different colors of paint onto a paper plate. We used peach, bright pink, turquoise, yellow, orange, blue, and purple paints to go with the spring feel of our butterfly flower pots.

Have the child dip their finger into their desired color of paint, then dip it onto a different plate to remove some of the excess paint.
Carefuly have them press their finger onto the flower pot on each side of a black butterfly body to create wings. Repeat to make a second set of wings on the butterfly if desired.

Continue this same process to create multiple butterflies on the planter.

Use a small paintbrush and some green paint to create grass. Do this by dipping the paintbrush in green paint, then pressing the brush to the bottom of the pot. Quickly move the brush up slightly to create small blades of grass around the whole bottom edge of the flower pot.
This part is optional but it adds a nice touch!

Carefully remove the flowers and their roots from the container that they came in, and transplant them into the painted flower pot. Add more soil if necessary.

Now proudly display or gift these beautiful hand-painted flower pots. They make the perfect spring decoration at home or a nice Easter or spring gift for family, friends, teachers and more!
