Do you feel like you need a magic spell to get your students to work neatly? By the time Halloween rolls around, the novelty of a new school year has worn off. Kiddos start rushing through their work, and you see their personal best start to disappear. A little positive motivation can change all of that! In early October, I introduce a Witch's Feet bulletin board to our classroom.
To get started, I covered my bulletin board with Fadeless Weathered Wood Paper. This paper is perfect to keep up all year long, because you can use it with so many projects! I wanted the board to be really bright so I added two sets of borders. I loved the style of the Purple Dots on Chalkboard Border and how it pops off of the Lime Green Border. To line everything up easily, I stapled the Lime Green Border onto the cork and then I taped the Purple Dots Chalkboard Border to the wooden frame of the bulletin board. It was much easier than leveling the borders or taping them together before hanging them! I know lots of teachers who do beautiful handlettering, but I am not one of them! I saved myself a lot of time and frustration by using the Chalkboard Bulletin Board Letters. There were so many letters included that I only needed one set for my whole poem. I punched out letters for this poem: "Trick or treat, witch's feet, show me work nice and neat!"
I stuck the Plush Witch's Legs to the top of the board, and I could not be more obsessed with them! There is a wire inside each leg so you can bend and position them to fit your board! The striped tights and fun shoes really complete the display! I added just a little more frill by hanging two tassel garlands above my board. I chose the Purple Tassel Garland and the Lime Tassel Garland to match my borders and the witch's legs.
Once the board was ready, I started adding student work to my display. I put some on the bulletin board and some on the sides. I also got some fun Witch Shoe Pens for added motivation. Writing with pen is always fun for kiddos who typically have to use pencils. You can give them out as rewards after the kids do neat work. You could also pass them out before an assignment to motivate everyone to do their very best work!
You can keep adding student work to the display all month and then send home your Witch Shoe Pens as a Halloween treat! It's a spooktacular way to help everyone do their personal best in October! Plus, you will never get tired of looking at those amazing witch feet!
