Imagine that it’s -7 degrees Fahrenheit outside and that a major blizzard is headed towards school. That’s right, we’re getting snowed in. It’s time to bring the outside into the classroom. With fake campfires, Christmas trees, soft lighting and other winter scenery, this activity will be something that your students will never forget. Let’s grab our supplies and get started on this classroom transformation!

A major blizzard has swept through the area and the students and teachers are sound asleep in bed, dreaming of a snow day the following morning. Whether you're skiing in Michigan or sunbathing in California, why not bring the snow to your classroom? This winter wonderland classroom transformation is sure to be a big hit in any classroom. The first step in transforming your classroom into a winter wonderland is clearing your classroom of all tables, chairs, desks, etc. I used an Extra Long White Tablecloth Roll to section off the classroom. Simply hang each strand of white tablecloth from the ceiling using binder clips. I found this to be the easiest way to clip the tablecloths to the drop ceiling. After sectioning off the classroom, it's time to start decorating! I hung Jumbo Snowflake Hanging Decorations from the ceiling to give it a true winter look. I used the Winter Scene Backdrop to section off the room and to add a more realistic feel to the transformation. The Tissue Snowflakes and the Icicle Garland added a special touch to the classroom.
Students enjoyed sitting around the warm Campfire Cardboard Stand-Up as they told stories and solved addition sentences. My favorite part of the fire are the LED Orange Submersible Underwater Party Lights I added to it. The LED lights gave the fire a realistic touch and the soft pillows added a cozy touch to the classroom.
I designed a number of a winter-themed center activities to go with our winter wonderland classroom transformation. You can purchase these winter-themed center activities on TeachersPayTeachers by clicking Here. The activities focused on the following skills: Ordering numbers 1-100, addition, subtraction, CVC words, sentence scramble, and much more! Each center was distinguished by a large Wood Centerpiece with a White Lantern Set on top of it. The Battery-Operated Round Flameless Candle in each lantern illuminated the classroom and gave it a true outdoor touch.
The children enjoyed sitting on the floor and completing each winter-themed center activity. This transformation gave my students the opportunity to move around the classroom freely as they completed a number of curriculum-based concepts. Whether you reside on the warm coast of Florida, or you live in the frigid temperatures of Michigan, this classroom transformation is a great way to experience the great outdoors.
