Winter Blizzard Bash

Winter Blizzard Bash

Waddle on over and celebrate winter and the holiday season with friends at this Winter Blizzard Bash! This cool party will get everyone in the holiday mood. So whether you’re in charge of planning the classroom party at your child’s school, or you just want to create extraordinary memories with your kids and their friends, this party is full of fun ideas and cheerful little penguins.

Here in Texas, it’s rare that we get to experience and enjoy winter weather. Occasionally it will snow, and when it does it’s like the entire town shuts down. On those days you will find most of the kids at the park having snowball fights, sledding and enjoying the magic the winter weather brings. I wanted to capture that bliss this winter, so I decided that rather than waiting on mother nature to make it happen, I would create it myself – thus our Winter Blizzard Bash was born.

Happy Holidays Penguin Plates

I kept things simple and created a small dessert table with mini powdered donuts, a homemade cake, winter-colored candy and of course, a hot cocoa station.

After you've been out playing in the freezing cold, hot cocoa is a must! I used small silver buckets to organize some of our favorite hot cocoa toppings, including these adorable DIY penguin hot chocolate spoons, and lots and lots of marshmallows. My kids thought the Snowman Fluffs Candy was pretty funny.

I filled the table with jars of candy and cute penguin lollipops so the kids could help themselves to a few special treats.

Our winter party just wouldn't be complete without a little of that fluffy white snow. I used cotton batting to create a snowy scene on the dessert table. I put a white fluffy rug underneath the table and then added paper snowflakes, penguin beach balls, and even an igloo made from glass blocks to make it feel more like winter. And for those of you that don't live where getting snow is a normal occurrence in the winter, I'll even show you how to create your own snow with this 2-ingredient homemade snow recipe.

I absolutely love using tassel garlands as a backdrop for the dessert table. They come in so many colors and you can mix and match to get the perfect custom look. For this backdrop I used a mix of blues and silver and added a fluffy white snowball garland. I love it so much I'm trying to figure out where to hang it up permanently for winter!

I filled a bucket with plush snowballs for an indoor snowball fight. These were such a big hit and even better than the real thing. We will be able to play with these snowballs all winter long!

One of the most important parts of any party are the activities. Even if I'm planning a small get together I always try to include a game or activity that the kids can do together. Not only does this help keep the kids entertained, it prevents them from running around like crazy and making a giant mess. For this party I made a DIY Penguin Bowling Game, and it was a big hit. My kids laughed every time they knocked down a penguin and insisted that it was way more fun than regular bowling.

Just like those rare snow days, this Blizzard Bash was simply magical. There were lots of giggles and tasty treats, and of course tons of memories were made. This holiday season, forget those winter blues and plan an extraordinary Blizzard Bash and enjoy some winter fun!
