Celebrating my children's birthdays is the highlight of my year. I just love creating a unique event that speaks to their personality, interests and passions. As my daughter is quickly approaching her teen years I wanted to make sure that the big 10 was a celebration to remember. Finding the balance between child and tween is sometimes hard but is doesn't have to be. Unicorns are all the rage right now and everyone has their own spin on this classic birthday favorite. I wanted to give the unicorn party a more sophisticated look so I decided to incorporate bold pops of black and white with all of the coral and pink. Check out how to create this simple unicorn DIY backdrop here!
I used black and white gossamer rolls to create the tablecloth. I double layered them so they would be bold and standout. For the kids table I used black and white striped table runners and set each place with black and white striped plates layered with the watercolor plates and gold foil cups.
To make sure that the party was a little more sophisticated I brought in a few trendy elements like the DIY marquee letters. These were so easy to customize with paint and made quite the statement on the cake table. To customize, simply remove the paper liner and paint any way you would like. I used regular craft paint and a foam brush to customize mine.
For food, I wanted to keep it simple; a fun unicorn cake, some cotton candy that looked like clouds and some unicorn trail mix. The unicorn trail mix was as fun to make as it was to eat. Just mix your favorite cereal with some unicorn poop candy, then mix in with melted white chocolate. Set aside to dry. Take Bugles® and drizzle pink chocolate onto them then allow to dry. Mix together and you have a yummy unicorn snack.
For fun the girls were pampered with a spa day. We did manis & pedis, had a cucumber facial, and even used a glittery bath bomb to soak all of our pretty toes.
After all of the pampering we had to get a little crafty! These tweens tried out their crafting skills and created their own DIY unicorn sleep masks out of felt. Aren't they adorable?
With these adorable sleep masks we just couldn't resist snapping a few fun pics with our friends. I think these silly girls loved the photo prop station the most. It was so easy to set up. I used white fadeless paper and stapled it to our wall. I added a white fringe curtain on top and then accented with curtains made from black and white gossamer. The girls rushed to grab the cute signs and snap a few pics with their besties!
The girls couldn't leave without some magical treats. These cute DIY unicorn favor boxes were a hit with these girls!
