School Theme: New York Bulletin Board & DIY Red Hanging Lanterns

Attention passengers, this is your captain speaking. I’d like to welcome you to New York! The local time is 8:40 AM. Today the local weather in New York is mostly cloudy with a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. On behalf of Oriental Trading Airlines, we’d like to thank you for flying with us today and we hope you’ll fly with us again!

Join Chad Boender and Oriental Trading company on an adventure around the world! Travel to New York using Oriental Trading products! That's right, we are in New York! Throughout the school year our school is traveling the world with our theme "The World Is at Your Fingertips." Last month we prepared to travel by packing our bags and getting our boarding passes ready! This month our school is taking a trip to "The Big Apple" (New York). This fun, creative bulletin board is the perfect addition to your school entryway and students will love it too! Let's grab all our supplies and get started!

New York Bulletin BoardThis New York bulletin board display is perfect for any school travel theme

I absolutely love how this New York bulletin board turned out. I used a number of Oriental Trading products and stand-ups to make this vibrant bulletin board come to life! The Large Skyscraper Cardboard Stand-Up and the Statue of Liberty Cardboard Stand-Up really give the entryway a true New York feel. I set the table using a Superhero Tablecloth and decorated it with the Large City Skyscraper Cupcake Holder, the Superhero City Tray with Cones, and a Traffic Light Hanging Decoration. This is the perfect centerpiece for any New York bulletin board using Melonheadz clip art! I created the bulletin board using the Design-A-Room City Scene Backdrop and Scalloped Red Bulletin Board Borders to outline my bulletin board. My favorite part of the bulletin board is the Bobbing for Apples Tub Cooler. It gives the bulletin board a nice three-dimensional look. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the lettering and the skyline background. I added these adorable Apple Kidlettes from Melonheadz Illustrating. I want to be a part of it... New York, New York! What's the one thing that many people think about when they think of New York? A taxi cab, of course! This Old Style Cab Cardboard Stand-Up is huge! It's the perfect addition to any New York-themed party or classroom transformation. What New York display is complete without apples? These Red Apple Stress Toys and Green Apple Stress Toys totally fit my bulletin board theme! The apple stress toys fit perfectly on the Superhero City Tray with Cones display. This table was a huge hit for all the students.

DIY Apple Lanterns

Create these fun apple lanterns using red lanterns, green washi tape, and craft foam! Create this fun, apple hanging lantern using a number of Oriental Trading products. I wanted to hang these apple lanterns throughout the entryway of our school to give it the true "Big Apple" feel. Follow these easy steps to create your very own!

Trace your apple leaves and stem on craft foam I used three different sizes of red lanterns when creating this project (Mini Red Hanging Paper Lanterns, Red Hanging Paper Lanterns, and 18" Red Hanging Paper Lanterns). Use a marker or a pencil to draw apple leaves and a stem on Bright Foam Sheets. Cut out each leaf and stem with scissors. Add green washi tape to the leaves and use glue dots or hot glue to adhere to your red lantern. I used the Green Washi Tape Set to add color and a pattern to my apple leaves. This made my hanging lanterns stand out and it gave the apple leaves a more realistic appearance. Use Clear Glue Dots® or hot glue to adhere the apple leaves and stem to your red lanterns. I highly recommend using the Neon Ribbon Assortment to hang your lanterns from the ceiling. That's it! It's a super fun and easy craft that will give your entryway a pop of color.

Where Will We Travel Next?

Where, oh where will our next destination be? Perhaps you'll just have to wait and see! This place is definitely the crème de la crème or the bon appétit! Safe travels and I'll see you soon!
