Throw a Traditional Oktoberfest Party

Throw a Traditional Oktoberfest Party

Oktoberfest is a sixteen-day festival that celebrates the arrival of Autumn in Germany. Bring Bavaria into your backyard in honor of this German tradition! We have ideas for Oktoberfest decorations, food and activities that will make your festivities unforgettable. I married into a German family and they love to celebrate their heritage any chance they get. Oktoberfest is no exception to events celebrated. This year it was my turn to host and I was very excited since I found all these wonderful Oktoberfest themed items. The designs are very authentic to what is displayed in Germany.

Most Germans love Sparkling water and our party would not be complete without it and they most certainly would not have a party without a variety of Beers. We served several seasonal Oktoberfest varieties from a local brewery. Our guests loved the Lederhosen style bottle covers. The children were served lemonade in decorative milk bottles.   Oktoberfest party food idea - sausage and hotdog toppings barThe highlight of the meal was a hot dog/sausage toppings bar with both German and American favorites. There was something to suite most any taste.

Oktoberfest Hot Dog and Sausage Toppings Bar:

  • Stone Ground Mustard
  • Yellow Mustard
  • Spicy Dijon Mustard
  • Sauteed Onion
  • Diced Onions
  • Red Apple Sauerkraut
  • Sauerkraut
  • Dill Pick Relish
  • Sweet Pickle Relish
  • Spicy Dill Pickles
  • Red Peppers
  • Yellow Peppers
  • Curry wurst (ketchup and curry powder)
  • Ketchup butter buns , pretzel buns

We grilled brats, metts, hot dogs, and kielbasa sausage. The meat could be eaten on pretzel buns, butter buns or fluffy white bread buns. The serving trays were the perfect size to hold buns. We also served veggies with dip, chips, hard pretzels, popcorn, a variety sodas, fresh fruit and cream puffs for dessert. Another main feature was my cheddar dip and my beer cheese dip served with soft pretzels in the large serving trays and snack cups.
