Throw Color Brick Birthday Party

Throw Color Brick Birthday Party

A few weeks ago we threw a color brick birthday party for my son's 7th birthday. It ended out being so much fun. All the kids had a blast, and my Lego loving son especially enjoyed all the color brick decorations and party favors.

color brick birthday party     Setting the Scene We decided to decorate with a rainbow of colors, and balloons are such a great way to do that. color brick birthday party We also matched the balloons to the Legos. We lined up all of these DIY Color Brick Centerpieces in rainbow order next to the cake and drinks. My kids helped me prepare by sorting different colored Legos into different paint cans to act as colorful centerpieces and balloon weights. color brick birthday party We also had a lot of fun putting together some Color Brick Favor Boxes. What's great is that they were so cute that they also acted as party decorations. You could just make a few different colors, but we decided to make a whole rainbow. color brick birthday party The boxes were all lined up next to the presents and all of the kids were so excited to pick out their color. It turns out blue was the most popular color. You could also set a favor box at each place setting. color brick birthday party We filled the favor boxes with lots of color brick party goodies. Oriental Trading has such an amazing selection it was easy! (FYI the pencils do fit in these favor boxes but the color brick clappers are a little bit too big.) We also tried to match the color of the favors to the color of the box. Also, how cute is that gummy bear pencil sharpener?color brick birthday party The Birthday Cake We had pizza delivered and also had some fresh fruit and crackers out for the kids to snack on. And I even made a Giant Color Brick DIY Birthday Cake. I am not much of a baker and this cake is one of the first cakes I've attempted to decorate, but I love how it turned out. If you follow the steps to get the shape of the cake just right, it's somewhat simple. It definitely took me longer than I had expected to ice the cake, but it was worth it. color brick birthday party I made the cake chocolate (my son's favorite kind) and I used blue icing (his favorite color). One thing I learned the hard way is that store bought icing, while delicious, is very difficult for icing a cake well. I ended out making homemade butter cream icing and it went on very smoothly. color brick birthday party I love how the cake looks when you cut into it. And of course we served the cake on color brick dessert plates. color brick birthday party Other Details I also made a happy birthday banner out of photos of actual Legos arranged as letter shapes that I took myself. You can check out the full tutorial (and free printable letters) on my blog, Lines Across. Color brick birthday party I wanted something cute to put the forks and spoons in, so I made these yellow Lego face containers and I LOVE how they turned out. They really were so simple to make. All you need is a Sharpie or a paint marker and some of these yellow buckets. If you don't feel like you're very good at drawing, I would stick with the sunglasses face or the classic smile. Just make sure to find some pictures for reference. color brick birthday party To make these buckets, simply sketch a face onto the front of a yellow bucket with a pencil. When you're happy with your design, use a black paint marker or sharpie to draw the face. I used a paint marker and I found it a little easier than a sharpie. Then fill your buckets with forks and spoons and hand sanitizer. I ended out adding a little of tissue paper inside the containers that held the forks and spoons. This helped them stick out of the top of the buckets a little. I think these bright yellow pails would also look great! Color brick birthday party My son and his friends ended out loving the color brick birthday party. It was absolutely perfect for a group of seven year olds. Be sure to check out the other tutorials from this party including the color brick centerpieces, the color brick party favors, and the color brick cake.
