Our easy and budget friendly caterpillar party will leave you hungry for more! Grab a slice of cake, a cookie, some fresh fruit and a few other delicious snacks and inch on over to our birthday party inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle! Full of bright colors and themed imagery from the literary classic, this celebration has everything your The Very Hungry Caterpillar fan could ask for. With loads of yummy confections, caterpillar themed partyware and polka dots a plenty, you'll want to climb right out of your cocoon and into this book come to life!
The Table:
To set the scene, the table was dressed in a White Linen Tablecloth topped with a Very Hungry Caterpillar Tablecloth and a Green Grass Table Runner. These simple details bring in the color palette of the illustrations within the book and feel so youthful.
The Place Settings:
Each place setting was created by layering three colorful paper plates.
A Turquoise Square Dinner Plate was topped with a Very Hungry Caterpillar Dinner Plate. The place setting was then completed with a themed Very Hungry Caterpillar Dessert Plate.
To the right of each setting sat a Glass Milk Bottle. Each milk bottle was decorated with a Very Hungry Caterpillar Decal and a coordinating Very Hungry Caterpillar Paper Straw.
To the left sat adorable Blue Gingham Popcorn Boxes brimming with fluffy popcorn.
Each Popcorn Box was enhanced with a Very Hungry Caterpillar Decal on the front and a Very Hungry Caterpillar Decal popping out from the box itself.
To the side of each place setting sat adorable Hungry Caterpillar Zippered Pouches topped with Wooden Cutlery.
These versatile Zippered Pouches made for the perfect party favors to lay out at each place setting and our guests absolutely loved them!
The Centerpiece:
We wanted to keep our centerpiece simple and sweet to avoid competing with the patterns of our partyware.
The easiest way to do this is with your cake! Our cake rested upon a Cake Pedestal in the center of our table. We love the fondant fruit and caterpillar details that really brought our cake to life.
To each side of the cake sat Mason Jar vases full of faux Daisies, Caterpillar and Fruit detailing and Very Hungry Caterpillar Cutouts.
Between the cake and each vase sat Miniature Hungry Caterpillar Books as a nod to the original book.
The Favor and Dessert Buffet:
What would a party celebrating The Very Hungry Caterpillar Party be without loads of treats to nibble on? We wanted to create the perfect setting to display party favors and plenty of sweet treats.
To set the scene for our dessert and favor table, we knew we wanted to create a high impact backdrop! Of course that meant featuring a huge Hungry Caterpillar Cutout!
To bring in the color palette from the book we used a mix of red, orange, yellow, turquoise and green balloons to create a simple balloon garland to accent the giant caterpillar cutout.
To tie into the theme (and our yummy table!) we added a few themed Cutouts of the caterpillar nibbling on some of his favorite treats right into our balloon garland. We can't get over how quickly this simple backdrop came together!
A Very Hungry Caterpillar Banner that says "Best Day Ever" was strung across the front of the table for an additional pop of color and whimsy.
Food and Drink:
We wanted our own little caterpillars to have plenty of yummy dessert options during the party.
After indulging in some birthday cake, guests took the opportunity to nibble on delicious sprinkled cookies bites.
Each cookie bite was nestled in a Very Hungry Caterpillar Cupcake Wrapper and adorned with a coordinating Cupcake Topper.
Each cookie sat in a bed of Red Chocolate Candies in a Red Gingham Dish with additional Very Hungry Caterpillar Detailing.
To the right sat a small display with Drinks and Cutouts of the caterpillar's favorite treats to snack on.
Ice cold milk paired perfectly with cake and cookies and was served up in Very Hungry Caterpillar Part Cups with coordinating Very Hungry Caterpillar Paper Straws.
The Favors:
In addition to some tasty cookies and milk, this table also had a build your own favor station!
Kids loved grabbing their own Very Hungry Caterpillar Favor Bag and fill it with their choice of fun favors!
Themed party favors were displayed on a tiered stand. An array of Very Hungry Caterpillar Bouncy Balls were displayed on the top tier and rested in themed Cupcake Wrappers. The Cupcake Wrappers kept each different kind of Bouncy Ball visible and prevented them from rolling.
Each guest also had their choice of different colored bottles of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Mini Bubbles!
These petite Bubbles even come with their own tiny wands!
On the bottom tier of the display sat a variety of Mini Hard Cover Eric Carle Notebooks.
The kids loved assembling their own Favor Bags which were large enough to accommodate extra sweets and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Zipper Pouch!
Lastly, our guests loved taking home these fun Very Hungry Caterpillar Lidded Tumblers that they could reuse at home! Well that's a wrap on this colorful and creative birthday party!
