Teacher Desk Makeover

Teacher Desk Makeover

Any teacher knows their classroom is really a second home. We spend countless hours there teaching, planning, and preparing for our students. We deserve to have a space that fits our needs and looks beautiful! I love farmhouse decor for my home so I thought it would be perfect for a teacher desk makeover, too! With some new rustic decor and stationery, I transformed my desk to make a space that is more functional, beautiful and organized!

When you're responsible for dozens of children, you need a LOT of stuff. It's easy to end up with stacks, piles, baskets, and bins galore on your desk. Before my desk makeover, my desk was cluttered and got disorganized quickly. This is what the chaos looked like on a good day.Teacher Desk Makeover Before

I decided it was time for a makeover! I wanted to bring farmhouse decor into my classroom, but I needed my desk to be functional. I placed a small shelf at the front of my desk to help organize some of the supplies. I kept my desk against the wall, which helped keep the shelf secure and also gave me the most space in my room!

There are two small bulletin boards over my desk, but I wanted them to look like one big board. To accomplish that, I covered both of them with one sheet of Fadeless Weathered Wood Paper. If you've never used this paper, it's amazing! I also added some Dotted Swirl Chalkboard Border to the outside edges. Now you really can't tell that it's really two smaller boards put together! A Cotton Plant Wreath is the perfect accent for the middle. It's lightweight so it only took a couple of push pins to hold it up. I have space on both sides of the board now to add notes or reminders, but I don't feel like I have to add anything to fill it up. Sometimes less is more!

I draped a Cotton Plant Garland over my shelf to help tie the spaces together. On the top of my shelf, I also added mason jars to organize the things I grab the most. The Rustic Classroom Labels will help me keep my markers, bookmarks, and pens organized. I can even use the labels all over my classroom to update the entire space! I was planning on hanging the Distressed Chalkboard and Burlap sign, but it looked like it belonged on the top of my shelf. I used a white paint pen to add the word "TEACH" to the middle. This sign is a good size to personalize!

To keep my files and notes organized, I used some galvanized buckets and trays. They make my desk look so much more updated, but they're still functional and durable. The smaller Oval Galvanized Bucket is just right for notepads and sticky notes. These DIY White Canvas spiral notebooks are perfect for keeping lists and ideas. I also use them to write down all of my school log-ins and passwords. The Galvanized Metal Tray with Handles is perfect for file folders and binders. All of the Rustic Classroom File Folders have quotes that are great for the classroom, so they look nice even if they're out on your desk.

I also added some new stationery to my desk update. Personalized pencils are so smart for the classroom! It will be easy for kids to borrow and return our "I LOVE FIRST GRADE" pencils. I picked white because they look great on my desk, and they will be easy to find if they get mixed up with any kid pencils. The pencils are stored in a mason jar that has a little extra border taped around the bottom. I also used some stickers to add the finishing details.

Every teacher deserves a desk that makes them feel special. I am excited to sit down and get to work at my transformed desk!
