Dessert tacos for a Taco TWOsday Birthday Party

Most birthday celebrations call for birthday cake, but a Taco TWOsday Birthday Party is special...it calls for dessert tacos! We created our own using a pizzelle press and some candy melts, but Choco Tacos are available in the frozen ice cream section of grocery stores and work just as well. Aren't they so fun and festive?

To display them, we secured two DIY Wood Plank Signs together and painted them with turquoise acrylic paint. We then painted a few pieces of scrap wood black, then used screws through the back to secure them to the plank signs creating shelves. For a cool finishing touch, we used a Marvy® White Broad Point Chalk Marker to draw Aztec designs on the front of the shelves.

The ice cream tacos obviously can't sit out at room temperature for the entire party, so bring them out just before serving. Florals and limes look pretty displayed on the shelves until it's time for the dessert tacos to make their debut! If you make your own dessert tacos, you can simply display the empty shells during the party and just add the ice cream when it's time to eat.

Toddlers like to have their own things, so snacks served individually are a great way to keep everyone smiling! Black plastic tumblers are perfect for giving all of the littles their own serving of chips, and they look super adorable when dressed up with our free printable cup sleeves!

Individual servings of guac look mucho cute-o in Mini Ceramic Chalkboard Flower Pots and ensure that no one has to eat after a double-dipper! Simply fill mouthwash cups (found in the paper cup aisle of the grocery store) with guac, then place inside each pot. To keep the Aztec vibe going, we drew symbols on the pots to mimic the taco wall, then tucked a Fiesta Party Stir Stick in the center of each pot. We cut a few inches off the stir stick so that it was proportionate in size to the pot. We mounted our free Taco TWOsday party circles onto some yellow paper cut to look like the sun, and attached them to the back of each stir stick for a festive finish.

A fiesta just isn't complete without maracas, so we made sure to incorporate these Fiesta Maracas into our celebration. Not only do they tie into the party decor perfectly, but they are great to send home with the kiddos as party favors! The "Holy Guacamole" favor tags can be downloaded for free here and look adorable tied to the maracas.

Puns are fun and we love incorporating them into our parties! The free printable "Nacho Average Birthday Boy" sign is available as a free download here, and we've included one that says "Nacho Average Birthday Girl" for the girls, too! We painted a Large DIY Unfinished Wood Frame white, then used a black permanent marker to add Aztec symbols around the borders. A mini clothespin clips right onto the wire and showcases the sign perfectly.

You can't have a Taco TWOsday party without a giant fringed TWO, right? This 2 Shaped Number Mylar Balloon was transformed into a show-stopping centerpiece with the help of some Fiesta Fringe Garland. To create it, we simply blew up the balloon and secured it well, then we cut pieces of the garland to fit around the balloon, and secured in place with tape.

Fiesta luminary bags and Boho Pom-Pom LED String Lights displayed around the balloon and sign help tie everything together and lend to the fiesta vibe.

More Fiesta Fringe Garland on the wall helps balance the space, and serves as a backdrop for our free printable "Taco TWOsday" banner. We've included the black Aztec-print paper with the printable download so that you can make the paper rosettes like we did. Making the rosettes does take some time, so this is a great project to tackle after you tuck the kiddos in bed. You can plop down in front of the TV with your glue gun and knock them out while watching your fave show! There are lots of tutorials online for making paper rosettes, but if you'd like to make the same size as ours, we paper into 3-inch strips (which equates to 15 pieces of 8.5" x 11" Aztec print paper). We then accordion folded each piece and glued them together to form a circle. Once the rosettes are made, simply glue the banner circles onto the fronts, and string them all together. So cute!

Piñatas are a fun party activity and we just love how well this Cactus Piñata fits the theme! Just give the kiddos the festive piñata stick and let them take turns giving it a go until the treats come out! If you're planning on having a more low-key party you could just use your piñata as a decor piece.

We used more of the yellow paper to create a larger paper rosette, then attached a pink fiesta party stir stick cactus to the center. We borrowed one of the black chevron paper dinner plates from the party and secured the rosette to it with hot glue to create a unique piece of party decor.
