Turning one is fun, but it’s even sweeter when you’re celebrating two birthdays at once! This precious Sweet Shoppe Birthday Party was planned to celebrate the milestone first birthday of adorable twin girls. Gumdrops, lollipops and fun galore – what a sweet celebration we have in store!
One of my good friends asked me to help her plan her twin's first birthday party, and I was so excited to help her celebrate this special milestone birthday! As a mom of twins, I remember what a huge deal it was to celebrate their first birthday. First birthdays are always fun and special, but with twins I remember telling myself that if we could just make it through the first year we were not only going to survive, but eventually thrive. I wanted these precious girls, and their mom, to have a super sweet celebration to commemorate a memorable year.
I used lots of bright colors to represent the girls' colorful personalities and got creative with lots of candy-themed DIY projects, including DIY Jumbo Sweet Shoppe Party Decorations and a DIY Gumball Garland.
I created a canopy for our Sweet Shoppe candy buffet using the pink and white striped table cloth and PVC pipes for the backdrop. I added colorful tassel garlands to really make it pop. The "candy shop" was one of my favorite things about this party, and it really helped set the stage for this sweet celebration.
To create the candy shop look, I used a bookshelf from my daughter's bedroom to create a display case for some treats. I also filled apothecary jars with a variety of candy and used an old wooden box to display the giant lollipops. Kids could use the metal scoops to fill their treat boxes with taffy, gumballs, chocolate-coated candy, old fashioned candy sticks, rock candy pops and more!
I filled my vintage gumball machine with colorful gumballs and all the kids had so much fun turning the handle to see what color would pop out next! Gumballs are always a hit with kids so I purchased a mini gumball machine for every guest to take home with them as a reminder of just how much fun they had at Lucy and Claire's Sweet Shoppe party.
A birthday celebration isn't complete without cake, and this candy-inspired creation was the perfect addition to our Sweet Shoppe party. This cake is just one example of how you can use products from Oriental Trading to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary! I added gumballs and button candy to a simple three tiered white cake and it couldn't have been any sweeter! I made a mini ribbon bunting and stuck a mini gumball machine on top to complete the look.
With a cake that colorful and fun, I knew I needed to have cookies that were just as sweet! I made lollipop cookies that were just as sweet and delicious as they looked. With so many other treats to choose from at the party we decided to package up the cookies as party favors to thank the guest for making the twins' birthday celebration extra sweet.
This colorful party was a sweet success and a memorable way to commemorate surviving the first year with twins. This adorable party is perfect for any age and would make any birthday celebration extraordinary!
