Why is it that five year-olds love superheros? I thought it would be the perfect theme for our Father’s Day gift. My students wrote a heartfelt card to their dad, and got to dress up as a superhero. I call that a win, win.
Start off by creating a backdrop in your classroom using the City Scene Design-A-Room Background and Jumbo Superhero Word Cutouts. First, I taped the city scene up against my cupboards, and then I taped up the words. The first day I took the photos some of my students were absent so I left the backdrop up for two days. I would suggest taking anything out of the cupboards that you use frequently so you don't need to take down your skyline.
Next I dressed my students up using the Superhero Mask & Gloves Set for Boys and Red Graduation Superhero Cape. They had so much fun watching each other dress up and take a picture. I took the photos during small group rotations, and my small group got their photo taken that day!
After we finished taking pictures, I had the students write a thoughtful note to their dad. Before the students wrote their letter we brainstormed different ideas of why we love our dad. The students melted my heart with all of their thoughtful ideas!
We made a card out of construction paper by folding it in half. We glued their note inside the card. On the outside of the card we glued the front cover that says: "Dad, You are my Superhero!" In the middle of the paper we glued down their superhero photo. Click “download template” button under the materials list to get the free printable.
Happy Father's Day to all of you SUPERHERO dads out there!
