Super-Writing Bulletin Board

Super-Writing Bulletin Board

A couple of years ago my school decided that we were going to really focus on writing school wide. Every month we have a school wide writing prompt. All our kids PreK-3 write and then put their piece in their writing binder. That binder then follows them from grade to grade, so we can observe their writing growth. Each month we have a Super Writers assembly and our principal gives out writing awards to one of our students. We then display the award-winning writing on the wall outside our cafeteria.

How we did it: I had a blank canvas. I went to my principal and asked if I could redo the bulletin board. It needed a little love, and where we had kept our previous winners, was hard to get to. The first thing I did was put up the Blue Fadeless Paper with the Yellow Dots on Chalkboard Border. I really liked how the yellow border really POPPED on the blue background. Then I added the Giant Superhero Cutouts to the outside of the bulletin board to give me more room. Putting the Jumbo Superhero Word Cutouts on the edge of the bulletin board gave it a little more of a 3D effect. Making it Interactive: I think the best part of the bulletin board is that it will change every month. I took some clothespins and thumbtacks and hot-glued them to the bulletin board. I put a superhero shield with all the teachers and their grade level on the clothes pin. This way the kids know where their work is going to be if they win a Super Writing Award! Although we haven't had a Super Writers Assembly yet, the kids see the bulletin board every day while they are waiting to eat breakfast or lunch. They love it, and I just know they will be over the moon when they see their first writing up there next week!
