When the sun starts to shine and all the colors are in bloom, it's only natural to want to bring those colors inside your home with your decor. Spring time to me means flowers, warmth, and fresh budding greenery. But spring time also means Easter and bunnies! Luckily there is no need to choose between decorating for spring or decorating for Easter. You can do both and I am going to share how to create a colorful spring time mantel that can easily transition into an Easter mantel with just a few additions and little paint!
Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas
Let's talk about a colorful spring mantel first. Not only should you style the mantel top itself, but don't forget the wall above the mantel. For this colorful spring mantel I used tempera paint mixed into pastel shades to paint wood flowers of various sizes. These were then hung up with removable mounting strips to create a garden of colorful flowers above my mantel.
For the mantel shelf itself, I started with a boxwood garland and added in DIY Colorful Spring Houses made by painting paper mache houses and adorning them with foam flamingos, mini boxwood bushes, and colorful front doors. You can find the full tutorial for these DIY Mini Spring Houses here. On either side of the houses I added vases of flowers and mini succulent pots to bring in more of the new blooms and greenery that comes with spring. The finishing touch was a flower garland swagged below the mantel shelf.
Easter Mantel Decorating Ideas
Now, when the time comes to decorate for Easter, your mantel is over half-way there! Of course Easter means bunnies! So I added in a few white ceramic bunnies and painted this bunny garland with tempera paint to give it a colorful pop.
I also shifted the flowers down and placed the large ones on the mantel and hung the small ones lower. This made room for a little Easter art in the form of this DIY Colorful Easter Bunny Triptych. White frames are given the colorful paint treatment and paired with paper bunnies. You can find the full tutorial to replicate this look here.
As you can see, all it takes is a little imagination and some paint to transform plain white and brown craft supplies into the most colorful Spring and Easter Mantel on the block!
