I love surprising my students with new classroom decor based on their interests or the theme we are currently studying. Right now we are studying space so the natural choice was to create this space-themed library nook! When you walk into my classroom, this is the first thing you see. This space-themed classroom library nook made my students so excited to learn more about the planets and to read in this fun and engaging space!
My inspiration for this space-themed library nook started with this canopy. I loved the star and moon accents and it made me think of space, too! The rocket photo stand-up was also a perfect addition to this space-themed library.
When creating a themed library nook, it is important to find decor items that go well together and complement the space. I used paint bucket favor containers filled with self-inflating black and gold star mylar balloons and planet photo props to decorate the top of my bookshelves. I added gold and silver star centerpieces and space party favor boxes as well. One of my favorite parts of this space-themed library nook is the number of pillows. These pillows make my library feel so cozy and are very easy to wash, too!
It's important to display items that will get your students eager to learn about the planets. I created these DIY planet shadow boxes using DIY large clear Christmas ornaments, tempura paint, and an DIY unfinished wood box frame. This would be a great project to complete with your class as you learn about each planet in the solar system! I also displayed a number of planet-themed books for my students to read. I love the pictures in these Capstone® planets books!
Who wouldn't love to color their own DIY rocket ship? This activity allows your students to use their imagination and makes for a great dramatic play area. My students loved working together to decorate their very own rocket ship!
Your students will love reading, exploring, discovering, and playing in this space-themed library reading nook! It is amazing how much of a difference adding a few space-themed decor items to your classroom can make to get your students eager and excited to learn!
