Sesame Street Birthday Party

Sesame Street Birthday Party

A love for Sesame Street is pretty much a right of passage as a child. What kid can resist a happy, fluffy, Elmo or a lovable blue monster who eats cookies all day?! This Sesame Street Birthday Party works great as a first birthday or any age birthday if you have a Sesame Street lover in your house. Be sure to check out how to make your own DIY Sesame Street Party Backdrop for more party fun.

Set the Scene

I wanted this party to be bursting with primary colors. To achieve this look, gather all the red, blue and yellow party supplies you can find. Stick with this color scheme and you'll be in good shape! Of course, I also wanted to include Sesame Street characters, but in a cute and classy way. Sometimes character based parties can go a little overboard! I love this Elmo Turns One Room Decorating Kit and these Elmo Turns One Paper Cups because they are full of cute character designs that added the perfect touch of Sesame Street fun.

The Backdrop

The "Letter of the Day" song on Sesame Street is one of the most popular parts of the show. When each of my kids were little, they clapped with delight when this song came on! At this birthday, the letter of the day is P! And in this case P stands for PARTY! This cute backdrop also works well with the "letter of the day" being the first letter of the child's name. For example: The Letter Of The Day is K! K is for Kate! With bright balloons and character cutouts, the colors in this party backdrop will delight little ones.

The Decorations

The Sesame Street party decorating kit had so many cute paper fans, character cutouts, and more. I was really impressed at how much it helped boost the party theme.

Sesame Street Party Decorations

I put together a quick Sesame Street party garland by using a red tissue tassel garland, blue tulle pom-poms, and a couple Sesame Street banner pennants from the Sesame Street high chair decorating kit. The dessert table was decorated with a red chevron table runner on top, and blue, red, and yellow polka dot paper lanterns below. Filling empty spaces with paper lanterns always elevates a party and adds pizzazz!

The Sweets

A bright yellow and red cake (found at my local grocery store bakery section) was dressed up with a cute Sesame Street candle set and swirl lollipops. The grocery store cake is a hack that I am currently loving. Grocery story bakery sections have TONS of cake choices. Buy one that would look good at your party (you can even buy a naked cake or all white cake), and then decorate it with candle sets, color coordinated candy, figures and more. It's a great way to save a big chunk of money at your party. Clear candy buckets were filled with yellow, blue, and red jelly beans and also displayed yellow, blue and red swirl lollipops.

Sesame Street Party Ideas

Cupcakes were topped with Sesame Street candles and cookies covered in tons of bright sprinkles were served. Elmo beverage cups were available to wash down all the sweets!

The Reading Nook

Sesame Street is all about letters, numbers, reading and education. So I thought a bright and cozy reading nook was the perfect activity for little party guests.

Sesame Street Party Reading Nook

I was surprised to discover awesome pillows in lots of colors and sizes. I arranged a jumbo red floor pillow, a large yellow pillow and a medium blue pillow into a reading nook. A letter board displayed the words Reading Nook. I scattered mini nursery rhyme books all over for some sweet story time. Also - the little paperback readers make great take home party favors!
