Put on your cowboy and cowgirl hats and giddy up into this month’s destination: a Texas farm! Your students will have a blast learning about different animal homes and their habitats as they study various farm animals. Plants and animals live in many habitats such as forests, deserts, oceans, ponds, or farms. These activities are a great way to introduce animal homes to your students.
Transform your classroom into a barnyard with a Barn Play Table Tent and some Large Red Pillows. My students loved wearing these Farm Animal Bandanas while reading their Farm Animal Readers. These informational farm animal readers are a great way for students to learn about various farm animals.
Every cowboy or cowgirl needs a horse! This Color Your Own Western Horse Box Costume was a hit with my students. The Crayola® Ultra-Clean Washable™ Multicultural Markers provided a number of colors for my students to choose from. Students can also use other materials to customize their horses. Some examples of these items include: felt, foam, pom poms and craft paper.
I found some fun and easy crafts that easily connected to our current theme and unit of study. How cool are these cowboy hats? This Cowboy Hat Craft Kit is a great way for students to truly feel like a cowboy or cowgirl. Each kit provides a variety of stickers for your students to choose from.
As your students study and research various farm animals, why not have them create a Farm Animal Friend Puppets Paper Bag Craft Kit? These fun and adorable hand puppets are a great way for your students to have a book talk with other classmates. Students are able to walk around the room and share information about their farm animals with one another.
Yikes! Be careful how you're holding that cactus, partner! These Western Cactus Magnets and Paper Plate Horse Craft Kits are a great way to make your students feel like they are truly in Texas. As a kindergarten teacher, I love providing my students with a number of art projects and crafts to choose from. These craft kits are kid-friendly and easy to assemble too!
As we finished our unit on animal homes and habitats, these Animal & Habitat Sorting Magnets were a lifesaver! After learning about each habitat, children sorted the various animals into their designated habitat. This is a great way to review the content and to check for prior knowledge as well. We finished our unit on animal homes and habitats with a writing activity. Students used Giant Realistic Farm Animal Sticker Scenes to create their own farm. After placing the stickers on the mat, students had to write about one animal on their farm. This was a fun way to check for student understanding and to ensure that all students have met the goals and objectives for our unit. Be sure to check out all the destinations and activities that align with our school theme: The World Is at Your Fingertips. Check out the Texas bulletin board that aligns with our school theme here! Happy travels!
